Access to the circle: On my attempt to find the remains of this circle I spoke to a man who informed me that a local historian by the name of Wilfred Spencer had attempted to find the site in the 1970's but was unsuccessful. The name of the nearby farm 'Ring Stone Hill', suggests that the farm takes it's name from a circle that once existed here. More recently John Belbin of Burnley has told me that according to the book 'History of Burnley', Ring Stone Hill is actually a Roman site known as the Ring Stones and was the remains of a lime kiln. However it is now accepted 60 years on that many historians have great doubts about these Roman origins. |
