Access to the circle:

From the village of Mereclough SE of Burnley, a path leads eastwards and then turns sharp north, at this bend in the path the circle stood on the hillside to the right hand side. When I tried to locate the circle in 1987 I failed to find any remains. From the coordinates given the circle should stand in a field of short grass and close to a stone wall near the crest of a hill. In a corner of this field I found a mound of large boulders, and on the opposite side of this wall and to the east of these boulders, I discovered a large stone 1.3m high next to the wall. It would appear that these are the only remains of the circle.

Description:

Recently I have had confirmation that this circle has in fact been destroyed. Other people who have tried to find this site all report the same findings. It is tragic that such a unique stone circle that held so many artifacts should be destroyed in this manner. It is little more than vandalism on a grand scale, but it is not surprising given the state and condition of other stone circles in the Lancashire district.

Mosley Height

This pile of boulders in the corner of a field could be the only remnants of the Mosley Height stone circle.
