Excavations undertaken at this circle: Pre 1855. Details of any finds at this circle: Urns. This circle is not in state care. Access to the circle: The circle lies in a field and is visible from the main road near to the Scottish National Trust property, Castle Frazer from which the circle gets it's name. The circle is not within the castle grounds but situated in a field nearby. It can be seen from a gap in a large hedge along the road side. The circle stands proud about 250m into this field. There are also two other large standing stones in the same field that are probably the remains of another circle. Description:Castle Frazer is a very neat and tidy plain ring of tall stones with shaped flankers and a large recumbent stone. The middle of the circle is unobstructed and grass covered and clearly raised on a platform above the surrounding area.There are views in most directions except to the North and West where trees obscure the horizon.This circle is well worth visiting, it is neat, impressive and has fairly easy access although permission may need to be sought before entering the field. |
