Access to the circle:

This circle lies off the main A 57 Glossop to Sheffield road near the Lady bower dam. Parking is available where the stream of Highshaw Clough crosses the road at Cutthroat Bridge. A gate covered with barbed wire and marked PRIVATE LAND bars the way at this point. Beyond the gate a short walk along a track passes through a wooded area and just beyond the wood a narrow sheep track leads off to the left to the top of Hordron Edge. The circle can be found about 300m along this steep slopping rock strewn edge in an area clear of heather.

Description:

This circle is very typical of the free standing stone circles of Derbyshire. The stones are small, and in appearance the circle is very similar to Barbrook I or The Nine Ladies. There appears to be 20 stones but only 10 of these are standing upright and are clearly visible, the rest are less than 0.3m high and are obscured by tall grass. This lonely ring however is very evocative. It sits on the flat plateaux of Moscar Moor with excellent views in all directions, especially across the Lady Bower valley to the west where Win Hill and Lose Hill stand stark on the horizon. To the south east across the bleak moor there is Stanage Edge with it's crags and tors. An excellent little ring with hardly any intrusion from the 20th century.
