Description:

Barbrook II does not at first sight appear to be a stone circle. A restored bank of stones about 0.5m high surround an open unobstructed space. To the NE is a gap in the bank which forms an entrance and on the inside of the bank about 8 small stones, not much taller than the bank itself, have been placed. Within the circle lies a cup marked slab covering a cist. Upon excavation in 1966 the circle was found to contain cremations and charcoal that was carbon dated to 2000BC. A collared urn and flint implements were also found. Barbrook II is not very impressive as far as stone circles go, it is however worth the effort to walk the extra 50m or so from Barbrook I to see this site as it gives a good impression of what an embanked stone circle would have looked like prior to erosion.
