Excavations undertaken at this circle: Pre 1924. Details of any finds at this circle: Contained a burial. This circle is not in state care. Access to the circle: The site is near a public house on a minor road about 4km east of the small village of Moresby. The circle lies about 200m north of the road and close to a boundary wall. It is marked on the OS map but is difficult to find. The only remaining stones lie on the east side of the wall. Description:Only five stones remain and appear to be part of the NE arc, a stone wall cuts through the site and the remaining stones are on the east side of this wall. The circle is very ruinous and the small stones are precarious and seem unstable, they are only just visible in the long grass. There was a low cairn 4.6m from the focal point of the site but I found no trace of it.The size of the stones and their apparent unstable condition has given me doubt as to whether they are the true circle stones. I searched for some time around the surrounding area but was unable to find anything else that looked like a stone circle. Perhaps it's apparent invisibility had more to do with it's proximity to the nearby public house than the actual disappearance of the stones. Thirsty work this stone circle hunting! If what I saw in July 1986 was truly the site then it wouldn't surprise me if it has not vanished altogether by now!If anyone has further information on this site then please let me know. |

If this stone is a remnant of the Studfold circle then it is clearly in a ruinous state. |
