Access to the circle: The circle is reached after a short walk through a farmyard and is found in a sloping field of short grass to the left of the path. The stones can clearly be seen. It may be wise to seek permission from the farm before visiting. Description:About ten boulderous stones lie partially buried in the ground and protrude no more than about 0.3m. Only the south arc of the circle remains but there are a few stones at the north. The site lies on farm land with short cropped grass that at times may be grazed by cattle.A fairly easy circle to reach but not very impressive and in quite a ruinous state. It reminded me of the 'Coate' or 'Day House Lane' circle in Wiltshire near Swindon.Originally an outlier stood to the SW almost on the line of midwinter sunset. With a plethora of excellent sites elsewhere in the Lake District to visit this is one for the bottom of the visiting list. |
